I have been following the conference for the last two years. Although not

contributing regularly, I´m reading everyday the texts, and I feel I have

learned a lot of things thanks to all the regular contributors. I´ll like to

express my gratitude to all of them with this message.

I don´t think there is need of a moderator, and definitelly, I´ll not accept

you, Samba, as the person to do it, being a part in many of the discussions.

What I think is that everyone needs to moderate himself. Ksatriya-tempered

warriors are very often very uncongenial in the expression of their views.

So it´s natural for others to protest, and that protesting brings ulterior

defending and ralentizes the dialogue. So, ksatriyas should learn to express

themselves in a more diplomatic way. That diplomacy is an art, and not the

less important part of the ksatriya´s curriculum.

Sometimes, in this conference it seems that the frontal attack is the only

possible strategy.

I agree. There are so many other moderated and unmoderated specialty

conferences for devotees who don't like the anarchy-like process sometimes

seen here. Let this be a truly free forum. It's pretty much the only

one on COM.

Although the above sounds harsh, I agree with the notion that someone who

is heavily invested in one side of the ongoing discussions is not the best

person for the job of moderator.

I wish to volunteer as our moderator. As far as I'm concerned -- everything

goes!

More seriously, if we can't defend our position in an open exchange, then what

is the point of our preaching? Often finding people we do not agree with you

forces an individual to explore his own convictions that much deeper.

You are the de facto moderator, as that is what happens anyway!

I agree that the churning is good. My problem is that I am results oriented,

and I want to see something happening, and I find sometimes that you have to

beat around the bush so much sometimes on this conference even to get a

simple point across. I mean the volume of typing you have to do, maybe three

or four days, till we understand we are talking at cross purposes, and

actualy agree with each other! Its just seems so wasteful.

The other thing is that I cant help but feel that some people argue just for

the sake of arguing, as a sort of armchair intellectualism, and couldn't

care less if someone does something or not.

Anyway as you suggest I will try to do something in a way that I feel more

productive in the other conference. Hey, I am not into controling at all,

and I'm serious about that, but I am into facilitiating and moderating a

discussion so that it can actualy move forward, with poeple who all agree

that Srila Prabhupadas goal of a varnsrama society is what we want, all we

have to discuss is the most practical way of doing it. And that is a vast

topic, the more involved the merrier.

Just see how easy being a leader is when all you do is tag along for the ride!

So now Krsna has made a nice arrangement where there are two conferences that

focus on two different angles of this very broad topic. When you think about

it, we could have unlimitted VAD conferences, as there are so many aspects to

this very sophisticated and intriguing culture.

Well, at least they're not doing drugs. I mean, things could always be worse.
