Lord Krishna says in B.g. mam EKAM saranam vraja. He demands complete surrender unto HIM *only*. It's obvious that as a prefect representative of Lord Krishna, Srila Prabhupada demanded complete loyalty from his disciples. No other versions. The reason is simple--- both Srila Prabhupada and Lord Krishna know that only by being loyal to Them (i.e. Guru and Krishna) can we get real happiness. So they are concerned for our happiness when they demand loyalty. They won't really lose anything if we don't be loyal to Them. We will be the loser. that's it. ys, bb
