But as Canakya Pandita pointed out that an intelligent person > must be able to find gold in a pile of mud, just as a poor man marrying a > girl from a rich family. As far as I know, Srila Prabhupada left India to preach in the west, where he was able to make considerble progress making devotees. He then returned to India with those devotees to preach to the Indians. He said on different occasions that we should make America KC and the whole world will follow. He seemed to think that was possible, why don't we? Anyone will definitely agree that there is no > better place to be Krishna conscious in the world than India, especially > in the holy places like Vrindavana and Mayapura. I will personally not > stay for one day in India if I have to take into consideration what is > going in on in the present day Indian towns and cities. I spend a lot of time in Mumbai, preaching from the Juhu Temple, it's a good place to preach. Srila Prabhupada went to a lot of trouble to establish this temple, because he new the importance of preaching to influential people. The most educated and influential are to be found in the cities not the villages. But just to > recount to you the beauty part of Indians, I once rode a train from > Calcutta to Delhi with few devotees, and we decided to hold kirtan. You should see Indradymna Maharaja's kirtan festivals in Poland, and Tribhuvanath's festivals in Africa, they are ecstatic, with plenty of public participation (thousands join in). it's easy to close our mind and eyes and imagine whatever we like. When a preacher goes out boldly the way Srila Prabhupada showed us, then success can be anywhere. KC is not limited by any boundaries of this country or that. Yes India is somewhat better than most places, but it is in rapid decline. > Being a devotee of the Lord is quite difficult in the West as you have to > constantly deal with the mind, environments and all sorts of unimaginable > disturbances. You trying to convince me that people in India (devotees) don't have trouble with their minds? I'm being constantly requested to help Indian devotees go to the west. What to speak of counseling disturbed minds, full of politics, wrong understanding of philosophy and complaints against managers etc. I also find a lot of deviousness and trickery used for individuals to get their own way (almost landed me in trouble on occasions). But here in India, the only struggle is coping with the > unattainment of the desired goal of life, love of Godhead, in speedier > manner, at least I am speaking for a serious devotee. I can see that you are a serious devotee, but there are equally serious devotees all over the world who want the same goal. It's not so much where you are, but how your consciousness is. Do you think that there is no Maya in the Dhama? > Let's try to be more inward in our thinking and see more about the beauty > that is Vedic culture in India. We also shouldn't have our mind and eyes closed to reality. I agree in many parts of India the culture is wonderful and we can learn a lot from the people. But we also must be careful to see how it is connected to the way that Srila Prabhupada taught us. If in doubt throw it out. Don't just blindly accept anything and everything as Vedic culture. Remember it was the smartas' that tried to destroy Mahaprabhu's movement, both when he was present and later by the Galta Brahmins. India has undergone many changes since pure Vedic times, and will probably undergo many more before too long. There must be reason why Krishna made all > His appearances in India. If her people are not more closer to Krishna, > why would He made unnecessary effort to appear there. Yes the people are closer, but they are also trying to get away. India is full of different philosophies and ideas about religion. We have to also convince them that Lord Caitanya is the actual incarnation of God and not this or that baba. Still everyone want's to become God by some cheap process. The Gaudiya predecessor Acaraya's fought against this tendency to cheapen religion and give wrong interpretations of Bhagavad-gita for some ulterior purpose.
