Maybe the prostitute became a vaisnava

maybe I should be careful when judging others

while simultaniously trying to improve my self

Or: dont criticize your neighbour before you have walked a mile in his

shoes.

A society will also have to look at all the different circumstances and the

consequences of past actions in order to improve it self. And they do that.

Are we studying our history seriously, taking all the above things into

consideration?

Do we have statistics proving our statements, when we say that most

marriages break because of this and that, or that most devotees leave or

join because of this or that?

Have we systematically evaluated our progress/failures on different levels

as individuals and as a society during the past 30 years?

If not maybe we should get started.

Of course that would demand truthfulness and cooperation instead of

fighting and word-jugglery.

But the whole matter might be a lot more complex than we

think.(Remembering the story of the blind men each trying to describe the

elephant according to their own conception)

Excellent points. Thank you. Such an apporach would have to mean

studying the issues out of a genuine desire to know the truth - not

to prove some agenda. The closest example I can find of what you're

suggesting is Burke Rochford's Centennial survey of the ISKCON

membership. He presented the results to the GBC about a year and a

half ago, but it seems like it's just collecting dust on some shelf.

Sadly, there has been virtually no discussion of its findings.

Kundali just wrote an article about its results (after corresponding

with Burke). I'll post it here in case it stimulates some thought. We

also have a copy of the survey summary (not the full report) on

Chakra and Saunaka Rsi published the same summary in the ICJ.
