You are obviously not doing a very good job of that because it is beyond all of us in Kali-yuga. I would humbly suggest you try Lord Caitanyas prescription: "Oh my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings and thus You have hundreds and millions of names like Krsna, Govinda, Christ and Allah. In these transcendental names You have invested all of Your transcendental energies. There are NOT EVEN HARD AND FAST RULES for chanting these names. Oh my Lord out of kindness You enable us to EASILY approach You." We are unfortunate that we do not even have attraction for these names but by simply attempting to chant them we will GRADUALLY be attracted. Why start with the STRICTEST practices when we cannot even follow the easiest yet? Do we go to college first and then go into elementary school? Varna first, then asrama.
