Please find below different e-mail messages giving details on this incident from different devotees. They show a history of this unfortunate event. There are more, but I wish not to overwhelm this conference. I hope this information answers your questions. Vraja Lila dasi told me that Bhakti-tirtha Swami was recently there and told her that according to his observation there was no one taking care of the cows. She then asked me to contact you about it. I understand she is the GBC secretary for North America? I told her that I was waiting for a report from you as to the status of the cows there. So, I therefore wrote to you again about the written report per your visit to Murari. . The concern is whether there is anyone taking care of the cows, and the status of the cows, meaning are they receiving sufficient food, water, salt, shelter, securing hay for winter feed. Our telephone # is 304-843-1270 I will be contacting Drumilla this weekend and we will e-mail you after that conversation. Thank you again for your response and I am looking forward to further communication with you on this subject. As a result devotee cows were roaming onto the neighbors' property and visa-versa. This greatly agitated the neighbors and caused unwanted pregnancies of the devotee cows. Debbie is at the farm most every day working with the cows. But during this time Debbie and I were extremely busy getting prepared for the T-shirt booth at Panihatti festival in Atlanta. Drumila told me (M. Debbie) that he needed to talk to me. He told me he was waiting to see if I had noticed that about half the heard was gone. He said, he was waiting to see if they would come back. I (Damon) asked Drumila if he had anything to do with the disappearance of the cows. He said, no. Drumila told Debbie that he had reported the disappearance of the cows to Bir Krishna Swami. Months later we learned that it had not been reported to him. Two days before Bir Krishna Goswami was to come to Murari. Drumila told Debbie that he had just told Bir Krishna Swami 3 days ago. Tuesday night 9-14-99 I spoke to Mr. and Mrs. Hensley Senior. They said they did not know how the cows disappeared. But that they saw a truck with a cow trailer driving by in front of they're home coming from the direction of Murari during that time frame. And that they came back for another load in approximately 30 min. increments. Three times total. On 9-15-99 I went to two local stockyards. One of which was very cooperative answering my questions. The other would not. Said they were too busy at this time and to leave us your info. (of which I did not). On 9-15-99 evening, I went to the Lynchburg police dept. to ask the police if any report was mad of stolen cows from ISKCON Farm. I said we were told this was reported to our GBC then much later we learned that it was not. So I thought it might not be reported here either and that I am here to report it. Deputy Barrier is handling the case. He was busy that night handling other calls and could only take down a little info. and said he would be by tomorrow at your home to get all the info. He came by too early before I was home from work. So he left on other calls and said he would try to be back later tonight. He never came. It is currently Sat. night and I have not yet seen Deputy Barrier. He should be back to try again on Sunday night at 6:00 PM when he is back on duty. The 12 missing cows will be reported in detail to the Deputy Your servant Bhakta Damon and Debbie Damon S Campbell <damoncampbell (AT) juno (DOT) com> <iscowp (AT) ovnet (DOT) com> Fw: Tuesday, September 28, 1999 1:31 AM <Haribol Balabadra Prabhu. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. I am sorry, to bring you such bad news. Deputy Barrier (Lynchburg Police Dept.) came by to get the combination to the gates at Murari Farm. He informed me of what he learned from his investigation that Drumila hired Johnny Lee (local farmer) $200.00 to haul the cows for slaughter. Johnny Lee gave Drumila over $4000.00 cash. Deputy Barrier will be arresting or indicting (depending on what the district attorney decides) Drumila soon (probably tomorrow). > Upon being questioned by the sheriff, Johnny Lee confessed that Drumilla hired him to take the cows away. Later the district attorney decided that the case was not worth pursuing since a conviction would be difficult to acquire by US law. Cow slaughter is not a crime and Drumilla was an agent of ISKCON. Since Drumilla was understood to be the temple president it could not be viewed that he stole the cows from ISKCON. > - > COM: Prithu (das) ACBSP <Prithu.ACBSP (AT) bbt (DOT) se> > <iscowp (AT) ovnet (DOT) com> > Wednesday, November 10, 1999 9:19 PM > urgent > > [Text 2769941 from COM] > I went yesterday to the lifestock market with my credit card to bail the > animals out on my own expense if they were to be alife, but the papers say > clearly that 10 of the 12 went right to the slaughterhouse. > Two were sold privately but the guy at the counter said the farmer who > bought them in general sells them the same day he buys them. > In any case we try to reach this man since two days and if the cows are > there I'll buy them. Since it is ascertained that the cows were known to be missing around the Panihati Festival in Atlanta (June?) and now it is November it is highly unlikely they are alive. However Bhaktin Debbie is trying to get definite confirmation of their status. Bhaktin Debbie went down to the slaughter house also to find the cows that were sold for breeding and it is she who got the documentation of the sale and a copy of the check paid to Johnny Lee.
