Guest guest
Dear Devotees, PAMHO. AGTSP. You have hopefully previously all had the chance to read the Directions of Management Srila Prabhupada issued in 1970. In this document, Srila Prabhupada: 1. Describes how he gathered the available temple presidents together and ordered them to create a constitution for ISKCON. 2. How he chose the first 12 GBC members, as he was directed by the ad hoc committee. 3. Those individuals are now known as "Executors" not GBC. 4. The GBC/Executors duties are described. 5. "The Sannyasis will suggest for opening new centers in suitable places and the GBC will take action on it." (Indicating a clear distinction between sannyasa duties and GBC/Executor duties). 6. Every three years, eight GBC/Executors are to be elected by the temple presidents. After Srila Prabhupada's departure, four additional are to be selected by the remaining Executors. 7. Removal of temple presidents can only be done with permission of the congregation. (Nothing is said about the selection of temple presidents.) 8. The GBC are not to be involved in publication. Considering the apparent straightforwardness of this document (which you can read in it's entirety at this address: http://www.krishnagalleria.com/resources_archive/sp_on/GBC6.htm), I request those who feel they have reasons or evidence as to why these rules should not be followed, to come forward and explain their rationale. Please address replies to GBC.Restructure (AT) PAMHO (DOT) NET, a public conference which you can join yourself. (By the way, if the web address above breaks into two lines in your email reader, you will need to recombine it into two lines in your Web browser). ADDENDUM: I have been told recently that this Direction of Management was hidden from the devotees by a group of GBC members (or possibly the entire body) from around the time of its creation to 1994. If anyone has knowledge about the truth or falsity of this account, it would be deeply appreciated. Obviously, if this version is correct, it would indicate that the truly serious problems of ISKCON began before Srila Prabhupada left and that the history of ISKCON would have been drastically different if the contents of Direction of Management were known to the rest of the Society. If it is false, it is in our collective best interest to put the story to rest. Thank you for your cooperation. Your servant, Sri Rama das [GBC.Restructure (AT) PAMHO (DOT) NET]
