I was wondering what that "formal" system is? Or was? In my time of the movement, to the best of my recollection there was no "formal" diksa ceremony or rites and rituals. I may have missed it, though (I'm serious here). But, I do know that thousands of my godbrothers who performed tons and years of sincere service to Srila Prabhupada (temple service, book distribution, etc.) NEVER had personal, direct, eye-to-eye, person-to-person, inquiry-answer, same room, one-on-one diksa to disciple instruction from Srila Prabhupada. NEVER. Not ONE word. What of them? > As far as I have understood the basic association with the spiritual master > is service which one can perform both close and far away, it does not > matter. Spiritual bonds cannot be broken by material means. Thank you! I feel much better.
