Guest guest
Don't look up "castor tree gurus." I don't think it's all in one phrase like that. And I'm not sure whether Prabhupada said "guru" or "spiritual master." I'm pretty sure the quote is in there, because I remember coming across it several times while we were researching for Harakanta prabhu's article on Prabhupada's instructions to use castor oil for lighting. Could you try again for us? (My problem is that I answer most e-mail from work, but the VedaBase is at home.) Thanks. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi "COM: Madhava Gosh (das) ACBSP (New Vrindavan - USA)" wrote: > [Text 2328652 from COM] > > > > > Next quote we need to study is Srila Prabhupada's comments about "castor > > tree gurus." I only searched on "castor" alone. checked all 33 hits. Didn't seem to find anything like that. Following is sort of like it. Prabhupada: (in car) So do these people know what is the science of God? Jayatirtha: No. But they pretend that they do. Prabhupada: Well, pretending will not do. You must explain what is God. "Something, perhaps," this is not science. [break] Jayatirtha: ...if no one else knows, they're able to fool them. Prabhupada: (laughs) Yes. Brahmananda: Each man presents his own theory. Prabhupada: That is theosophy, that is not theology. Theosophy means a system of speculation, that's all. And theology does not require. Biology. Logy means science. They say anthropology, but it is not logy; it is theory. "Maybe,200,000,000's of years." What is this? Logy does not mean that. Jayatirtha: Still, they're awarding Ph.D.'s in theology. Prabhupada: Just like astrology. That is a science. Eh? What is that? Jayatirtha: But still they're awarding Ph.D.'s in theology, even they don't know anything about it. Prabhupada: You can do. Hiranda-pitha drumayate. When there is no tree, the small castor seed oil tree... It is not much. It becomes a very big tree. Hiranda-pitha drumayate. The castor seed plants, they are taken as big tree. [break] Actually, theology is Bhagavad-gita. [break] Jayatirtha: Oh, that's nice. Very good. [break] Prabhupada: Suitable? Brahmananda: Yes. [break] Prabhupada: (walking) ...means science of God. So what is that science of God? Who knows it? Jayadvaita: You do. Prabhupada: Yes, I know. (laughter) Bahulasva: Jaya! [break] Prabhupada: ...of God means first of all we must know who is God. This is the first. Then, what is this material world and what is my relationship with this material world and God. This is science of God. [break] >>> Ref. VedaBase => Morning Walk -- June 26, 1975, Los Angeles The idea is that castor bean is a small tree but if there is no other, it is taken as a large one. So better a castor bean guru than no guru, but he never directly makes that correlation , at least not in VedaBase.
Guest guest
Hmmmm... I'm not sure this is the quote I was thinking of. I thought that Satsvarupa Maharaja was in the conversation. I'll take a look when I get home. Thanks for your research efforts. your servant, Hare Krsna dasi "COM: Madhava Gosh (das) ACBSP (New Vrindavan - USA)" wrote: > [Text 2331747 from COM] > > COM: Hare Krsna dasi (Brunswick, Maine - USA) wrote: > > > [Text 2330445 from COM] > > > > Don't look up "castor tree gurus." > > I only searched on "castor" alone. checked all 33 hits.
