Great text. As soon as I saw this issue of the souls fall cropping up here, I groaned in anguish (since then I deleted almost every text in the string!). How long do we have to obsess over this topic? Srila Prabhupada himself stated that this is not an important subject matter, better to just get out of here. But we have to debate it, offering quotes and counter quotes and getting all worked up about it. You are right, when it comes to such subject matters the best place to resolve it is at the feet of a bonafide pure devotee guru, and not by our presenting endless quotes. What do we think we can acheive, other than showing of our own erudition or scholarship? Can we not get practical here? Lets leave these issues to the pure vaisnavas, who can actualy resolve them due to their unending darshan of Lord Krsna. Then the rest of us can roll our sleeves up, and get on with defining the first steps in getting our GBC, or whoever will listen to get varnasrama colleges going. We need practical solutions for this movement, not a lot of esoteric rambling. Srila Prabhupada gave us a lot of very clear practical instructions to start varnasrama colleges. We have the instructions yet we are still to follow up on them. This is unfinished business. Maybe if we did this, Lord Krsna would be pleased, and by acting in sattva guna in cooperation with the lords magnificent yet humbling creation, we might start to actualy desire the association of indisputable pure vaisnavas, we might give up our own puny intelligence, and seek the intelligence of those devotees who are free from envy avarice and lust. This conference could if its participants put their mind to it offer something practical. Instead we indulge in endless speculations regarding what Srila Prabhupada actualy meant. Maybe we should rename the conference, 'Miscellanous debates about Srila Prabhupadas teachings'? Ok some will say that they think all this talk is good, and sure, some good things do come out of it, such as this text of Mahananda prabhu. The argument often comes up that all of these topics do come loosely under the heading of varnasrama, 'loosely' being the operative word. Anyway, sorry folks every now and then I get desperate for some practical progress. YS
