Are you assuming that in ISCKON, the devotees are not aware of this? But the "hack" seams to be that ISCKON devotees are assumed do not know who *particularly* their guru is to be. That Krsna is assumed to not being doing His "job" of the caittya-guru sufficiently well, so the additional advertisement from Srila, Payonidhi and the other similar proponents of NM are needed to re-direct the poor ISCKONiaties from their gurus to Narayana Maharaja and other GM leaders. Normally it is Krsna the one guiding the person to such a guru.
