The duty of the brahmancari is to follow the order of the bona-fide guru, whatever that may be. For instance, Krsna and Sudhama went to the forest to collect firewood, thought that is neither the dharma of a brahmana or a ksatriya. I don't know of Prabhupada ever instructing prospective brahmancaris to get a job before their tour of duty as a brahmancari. Neither did he expect that tour of duty should become a life long responsibility for the vast majority of his disciples. ys, Sthita > > This "three years in the temple and sankirtana" is brain-washing and "cult consciousness". What if the new bhakta was a vaisya by nature from DAY ONE and would have been a fantastic servitor of the cows who are suffering? > Learning to practice celebacy, to preach the cult of devotional service, and to perform basic devotional activities are dharmic responsibilities that are natural for every member of the intelligent class. But the experience of brahmancari training is meant for part of one's life, not for the whole of one's life. ys, Sthita
