Guest guest
>From very begginning we were asked to fully surrender to Krsna, but most >often we are not conscious what we actually engage in. Good point. Krsna says at Bg 7.16 that four kinds of people approach Him (or His representatives). In other words, not everyone comes to Krsna out of pure piety or an abstract philosophical interest. Now the question arises, are ashram leaders and temple managers prepared to deal properly with, and take responsibility for their actions towards, all those who come to them while they are physically or mentally in need? Do those leaders and managers have a system to find out what the needs are of all the people they take in? >Problem arrise when we try to strongly push this movement with emotionally >disturbed people [...] Most >people need good psychologist and good father rather than spiritual master. In this regard, I would like to know whether there is any place to resort to in order to find Vaisnava psychologists, counselors, personal coaches, etc. -- in the US, and specifically California, is my immediate concern, but all over the world as well, of course. Recently I have been hearing about this need from a few devotees and I do not know what to tell them. I think it would be really useful to have a list of Vaisnava psychologists and counselors that included a self-description (institutional affiliations, religious commitments, etc.) so that the potential clients may know what to expect from the professional they might approach for help. Do such Vaisnava professionals exit at all in this world? Are they available? To whom? Under what conditions? Thanks. your servant, Kunti dd

Maybe the Office of child protection has compiled a list. I know there are Vaisnava mental health professionals in Colorado, Philadelphia, Florida, and Houston. Don't know about the rest of the world. Although my degree is in clinical psychology, I don't practice any more. There are some very good spiritually minded non-Vaisnava therapists here in the Bay area though. Ys, Madhusudani dasi

We should have a list compiled though, it may be useful for someone who lives nearby. Even very good counselors sometimes have a bit of an attitude with "Hare Krsnas" . It took me a good bit of looking to find someone who didn't think my main problem was that I was a devotee. yhs, Kanti dasi

Since good non-devotee counselors are rare, maybe we should also share referrals to the ones who have been helpful to devotees. A friend of mine sees a wonderful counselor in Berkeley. She says that this woman (who is a Christian) has even helped her improve her spiritual life and has been very respecful towards KC (to the point of helping distribute prasadam cookies to some of her clients). I can find out and forward her name to anyone who may need referrals in this area. Ys, Madhusudani dasi
