SYNONYMS

smartavyaƒ—to be remembered; satatam—always; viŠuƒ—Lord ViŠu;

vismartavyaƒ—to be forgotten; na—not; j€tucit—at any time; sarve—all;

vidhi-niedh€ƒ—rules and prohibitions mentioned in the revealed scripture or

given by the spiritual master; syuƒ—should be; etayoƒ—of these two

principles (always to remember KŠa or ViŠu and never to forget Him);

eva—certainly; ki‰kar€ƒ—the servants.

TRANSLATION

“‘KŠa is the origin of Lord ViŠu. He should always be remembered and

never forgotten at any time. All the rules and prohibitions mentioned in the

€stras should be the servants of these two principles.’

PURPORT

This verse is a quotation from the Padma Pur€Ša. There are many regulative

principles in the €stras and directions given by the spiritual master.

These regulative principles should act as servants of the basic

principle—that is, one should always remember KŠa and never forget Him.

This is possible when one chants the Hare KŠa mantra.
