Please accept my obeisances, prabhu. Here is the reference: Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.7.32-33 -- Lecture Vrndavana, September 27, 1976 "........... And if the mother, either she becomes prostitute or marries for the second time in the presence of elderly children, she is enemy. Rna-karta pita satrur mata satrur vyabhicarini. And Canakya Pandita had very bad experience with his wife. So he says, rupavati bharya satruh: "If the wife is very beautiful, she is enemy." And putrah satrur apanditah: "And if the son is a rascal, no education, he is enemy." So these are the family enemies." >If it comes from Chanakya Pandita (which some seem to have >implied), then it is the opinion of a mortal, not shaastra (though >it may nevertheless be correct). I am not sure I agree that a remarried woman is an enemy of her children. My question, though, is if his opinion is that of a mortal and so maybe not to be considered, then why would Srila Prabhupada quote him or use him as a reference at all? This is not anything in the way of a challenge, of course. It is just something that has confused me for quite sometime. I would be appreciative if anyone could shed some light on this. your servant, Jayasri devi dasi
