True, given the state of the health care system, the lack of screening of the blood supply, and the frequent use of street barbers, maybe HIV testing is a good idea prior to marriage. The Indian military just did a screening of some of its recruits (all young men) and found 6,000 new HIV positive cases. Anyone who travels in India ought to know his/her blood type, so that devotees can donate blood to each other in case of emergencies (e.g. auto accidents). While this is obviously no guarantee, I'd definitely trust that blood over what the hospital would provide - unless you are in an area with rigorous blood screening (and how many of us have the time to research that in an emergency?). Ys, Madhusudani dasi ps. Haribol Phani, nice to "see" you involved in this discussion. Hope all is well.
