Guest guest
pamho agtsp! > Came to my mind that maybe because not to advertise their guru? i think so. usually they chant their guru's pranam mantra/s either in mind or very softly and swiftly so that others don't think they are advertising their guru and at the same time acknoledge that they are not trying to surpass their guru. someone may not be chanting thinking that others will make fun of him labeling him a "guru-bhakta", something that is discouraged by some less intelligent people these days. other reason could be that some devotees may be thinking their guru is not so great that they can chant his pranam mantra/s in front of many other great vaisnavas. this is offensive. > Is it better etiquette, not to say prayers to one`s guru before public > lecture? Comments? what i understand is, it is better to chant prayers to one's guru before pucblic lecture. any reasonable vaisnava will appreciate it or at least will not criticise it. How loud one chants such mantra/s may not matter much. It may depend on time, place and circumstance. whatever gives maximum spiritual benefit both to the chanter and the audience should be carried out. If we know that by chanting loud we will encourage the audience (or some of them) to become offensive towards us or our spiritual master then we may chant it softly. when the audience is full of mature vaisnavas one should chant such mantra/s normally as other mantras. I am really happy to read many nice and quick comments on this subject--- all in line with Srila Prabhupada's teachings.
