Gunpowder changed everything. It used to take years of training to effectively weild weapons - developing bodily strength, agility, and decision making to fight. Now 8 weeks boot camp and any Joe Six Pack can pull a trigger. They do so under the order of an officer, who probably is commanding from a helicopter or remote command post. I don't consider enlisted men as ksatriyas - they are more like weapons used by the officiers, hence sudras. Fighter pilots are more in the ksatriya mode(from the amount of training required), incidentally, and we even saw women pilots returning from hitting Iraqi targets. How would that fit with Manu Samhita? It is a different age. Speaking of which, how about this for an atractive job - Iraqi Air Defense. Real future with that job!
