The 'GAURANGA' Mantra in the Scriptures

I heard from my Gurumaharaja that SP told to Brahmananda Pr. to give Panca

Tattva mantra to some people in Africa who were very sinful, they were

pinching the cows with some drinking halms and were drinking their blood.

As I understod SP told us to prefer the Hare Krishna mantra since it was

Lord Gaurangas mood that he chanted Krishnas names, he refused that he is

worshiped as an avatar, since his mood was of a devotee. But Advaita Acarya

exclaimed in Puri that he is the yuga avatara and all were singing the names

of Gauranga. Lord Caitanya was externally showing his dissatisfation. But

many times he was acting as the Yuga avatara- Supreme Personality of Godhead

as in the Mahaprakasha lila.

I didn't came across something which shows that Panca Tattva mantra can not

be chanted, I am not saying that there are not, so please if someone can

send the quotes I will be grateful. Below are two quotes one that the Panca

Tattva mantra can be chanted and second we should chant the authorized Panca

Tattva mantra.

 

Prabhup€da: That is yajña. Yajñaiƒ sa‰k…rtana-pr€yair yajanti hi sumedhasaƒ.

This is the way of delivering them: Let them worship Gaura-Nit€i by chanting

Hare KŠa mah€-mantra or ®r… KŠa Caitanya Prabhu Nity€nanda, if not two,

but one, Hare KŠa Hare KŠa KŠa KŠa, and let them take pras€dam.

These two things will make them advance very quickly, the spiritual life.

I this quote I understand that the Panca Tattva mantra chanted by the

devotee Richard on Radha Kunda was a different one.

 

CaraŠ€ravindam: Prabhup€da, you wrote in the Caitanya-carit€mta that the

Caitanya mah€-mantra, r…-kŠa-caitanya prabhu nity€nanda, there is no

offense to that. And so therefore in the Kali-yuga it is actually more

beneficial...

Prabhup€da: Offense is that what is spoken by the €c€ryas, if you do not

follow, that is offense. Guror avajñ€. That is offense. To chant Gaura-Nit€i

is no offense. But if our previous gurus have chanted r…-kŠa-caitanya

prabhu nity€nanda r…-advaita—why should we go beyond that? That is guror

avajñ€. Even there is no apar€dha, because guru, Kavir€ja Gosv€m…, has sung

like that and my guru has sung, we should follow that. We should not make

any deviation. That is guror avajñ€ ruti-€stra-nindanam. N€mno bal€d yasya

hi p€pa-buddhiƒ. So it comes to be one of the items of the

daa-vidha-apar€dha. Guror avajñ€.

CaraŠ€ravindam: Should we consider that it’s more beneficial for people to

hear bhaja r…-kŠa-caitanya...

Prabhup€da: Why? There is already... Why should you go here and there? There

is already r…-kŠa-caitanya prabhu nity€nanda. Why you are so anxious to

go out of it?

CaraŠ€ravindam: No, I’m saying is it more beneficial for people to hear that

mantra than the Hare KŠa mantra. Is it more beneficial for people to hear

the Pañca-tattva mantra than the Hare KŠa mah€-mantra?

Prabhup€da: Oh yes. You are going to Hare KŠa through Nit€i-Gaura.

Nit€iyer karuŠ€ habe braje r€dh€-kŠa p€be. The principle is don’t try to

manufacture. Because you are not experienced. So what nonsense you will

manufacture, that will be offensive. Better go on, the simple thing.

Akay€nanda: I know one devotee that chants Pañca-tattva mantra...

Prabhup€da: Let them chant whatever. We shall chant like this,

Pañca-tattva—r…-kŠa-caitanya prabhu nity€nanda r…-advaita gad€dhara

r…v€s€di-gaura-bhakta-vnda. I’ve explained that. Five features of Lord

Caitanya.

Here SP is saying let him chant whatever we will chant like this. So this is

a proof that the devotee Richard chanted a different mantra.

 

Akay€nanda: He chants that mantra on his beads.

Prabhup€da: Who?

Akay€nanda: That boy Richard in R€dh€-kuŠa.

Prabhup€da: Rascal. That is his bad association. Therefore I say don’t

follow these so-called R€dh€-kuŠa b€b€j…s. Nara-kuŠa b€b€j…. And they

smoke bii. I have seen. Richard is still there?

 

We have also to be careful that for this chanting of Gaura Panca Tattva

mantras no apasampradayas will come up in the mood of Gauranga nagari or

lets do sinful things and chant Gaura's names since he is most merciful like

this nara- kunda babajis.

Bhaktiratna Sadhu Swami gave nice quotes on the proper mood of chanting this

mantras.
