As Nayan Ranjan Prabhu mentioned, the first version given by Jiva is also

given in other places. Baladeva mentions it and it is described in Hari

Vamsa Purana. I have heard the latter story related by some Vrajavasis.

However I don't know if it has any scriptural support or not.

Of course if it is described in sastra it would not necessarily conflict

with Jiva's version in Gopal Campu. As Sanatan Goswami describes in Brhad

Bhagavatamrta, the Lord is enacting the same pastimes over and over again

only sometimes with some little difference. For example Sanatan Goswami says

that sometimes Krishna dances on Kaliya by Himself. Other times He brings

all of the gopis onto Kaliya's hoods and performs a rasa-lila dance right in

front of Nanda, Yasoda and the other elderly inhabitants of Vraja. At that

time Yogamaya covers them and they can only see Krishna and not the gopis.

Other times Krishna puts a rope through Kaliya's nose and rides him down the

Yamuna like a horse.
