dear maharaj,

pamho. agtsp. all glories to the assembled vaishnavas.

i find following differences in the 3 scriptures -chaitanya bhagavatm (cb)

caitanya charitamritam (cc) and chaitanya mangala (cm) regarding the

descriptions of jagai-madhai deliverence.

1. cm mentions that lord chaitanya wiped the blood from lord nityananda

whereas such description is not appearing either in cc or cb.

".....They angrily pelted the devotees with fragments from the broken pot.

One of those pieces struck Lord Nityänanda's head.

105. Where the pot fragment struck blood began to flow. Seeing this,

the devotees said: "Alas! Alas!"

106. Seeing this, Lord Gaura became filled with sorrow. To the two

sinners He shouted:

107. "No one is more sinful than you. Reports of Your sins fill the

whole earth.

108. "You have done what no one else dare do. Look at what you have

done!"

109. Saying these words, Lord Gaura went to Lord Nityänanda. With cloth

from His own garment Lord Gaura bandaged Lord Nityänanda's wound.

110-111. Lord Gaura knew the great glory of Çrépada Nityänanda. If a

single drop of Lord Nityänanda's blood had fallen to the ground, great

inauspiciousness would have come to the earth. Therefore with care and fear

Lord Gaura, with cloth from His own garment, bandaged the wound on Lord

Nityänanda's head.

2. In cb it is described that lord first delivered jagai , then madhai,

whereas sequence of deliverence is not described either in cc or cm.

cb....."When the Lord gave mercy to Jagäi, Mädhäi's heart at once became

purified.

Text 202

Neglecting Lord Nityänanda, Mädhäi hurriedly grasped Lord Caitanya's feet

and fell down like a stick before Him.

Text 203

He said, "Lord, Jagäi and I both committed the same sins. Lord, why are You

not merciful to us both?"

3. Cm describes that the lord took the sins of jagai and madhai through

tulasi leaf, whereas such absorption of sins through tulasi leaf is not

mentioned either in cc or cb.

Cm....."53. Respectfully standing, the brähmaëas and saintly devotees

watched. In their presence Lord Gaura spoke these merciful words:

154. "Now I will take upon Myself all your sins. Please give all your

sins to Me."

155. Speaking these words, Lord Gaura extended His hand to accept a

tulasé leaf. Frightened, the two brothers would not give the tulasé leaf.

156. Then Lord Gaura, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, mercifully

said: "Jagäi and Mädhäi, now you must give your sins to Me."

4. Conversation with sudarsana cakra and the lord is mentioned in Cb not in

cc or cm.

5. when madhai threw the piece of the wine pot , whether lord chaitanya was

present ? Cm description appears that the lord was there. but cb mentions

that devotees have informed the lord.

102. They happily sang Lord Hari's holy names. They never tired of singing

Them. At this point Jagäi and Mädhäi became wild with rage.

103. Grabbing a stick, one of them smashed a clay pot into pieces. Then

the two brothers ran toward the devotees.

6.Cm describes that both jagai and madhai went to the house of the lord

after the lord withdrew the sudarsana chakra and get delivered there. but in

Cb it appears that lord immediately delivered them after withdrawing the

sudarsana chakra.

Cm..131. Filled with sorrow and repentance, the two brothers ran. Seeing

them, the people of Nadéyä became filled with wonder.

132. Finally coming to Lord Mahäprabhu's door, they called out: "Lord!

Lord!"

133. Sitting at home amongst His associates, Lord Gaura said: "Who

calls for Me? Please see who is at the door.

134. "Muräri, please bring the visitors here to Me." Following the

Lord's command, Muräri embraced the two brothers and brought them before the

Lord

7. Cb describes the sankirtana of demigods and yamaraja after seeing the

deliverence of jagai-madhai. this description appears only in Cb.

srila viswanatha cakravarthi thakura mentions that differences in the

descriptions of the lord in different scriptures is due to lord's diffrent

pastimes in diffrent kalpas.

123. Hearing Lord Nityänanda's words, merciful Lord Gaura said: "Glory to

You, Nityänanda! Glory to You, O son of Rohiëé!

124. "I am Your submissive servant. This all the scriptures say. I

agree with all You have said.

125. "Anyone who just once his life speaks the word `Nityänanda'

becomes purified. He becomes My pure devotee."

126. Then, accompanied by His personal associates, L.ord Gaura returned

to His own home. Filled with wonder, Jagäi and Mädhäi stood there.

160. Again Lord Gaura extended His hand to accept their sins. Then Jagäi and

Mädhäi placed the tulasé leaf in Lord Gaura's hand.

161. From the four sides came a great tumult of "Hari! Haribol!" Then

Lord Gaura embraced Jagäi and Mädhäi.

162. Touching them, Lord Gaura delivered Jagäi and Mädhäi. He took all

their sins upon Himself.

One evening, as He was wandering in the city, Lord Nityänanda was stopped by

the two drunkards.

Text 174

"Who? Who?", Jagäi and Mädhäi called out. Nityänanda replied, "I am going

to the Lord's house."

Text 175

Bewildered with wine, they said, "What's Your name?" Nityänanda replied,

"My name is Avadhüta."

Text 176

Wild Lord Nityänanda, who was always in the mood of a small boy, playfully

conversed with the two drunkards.

Text 177

In His heart Lord Nityänanda thought, "I will deliver these two." That is

why He had come by that path at night.

Text 178

Hearing the word "Avadhüta", Madhai picked up an earthen pot and angrily

hit Lord Nityänanda on the head.

Text 179

When He was hit by the pot, blood flowed from His head. Lord Nityänanda

meditated on Lord Kåñëa.

Seeing the blood on the Lord's head, Jagäi felt compassionate. When Mädhäi

raised his hand to strike again, Jagäi said,

Text 181

"Why do you act like that? You are very cruel, merciless. Why do you hit

this foreigner?

Text 182

"Stop. Stop. Don't again hit the avadhüta. How will any good come to you if

you hit a sannyäsé?"

The people frantically ran to Lord Caitanya and told Him what had happened.

Accompanied by many devotees, Lord Caitanya went there at once.

Text 184

Blood had flowed over all of Lord Nityänanda's body. Lord Nityänanda was

smiling at the two drunkards.

Text 185

Seeing the blood, Lord Caitanya became angry. Now He was not aware of the

external world. "Cakra! Cakra! Cakra!", He called out again and again.

Text 186

Hearing the words, "Jagäi stopped him", joyful Lord Caitanya embraced Jagäi.

Text 191

He said to Jagäi, "Lord Kåñëa be merciful to you. By protecting Nityänanda,

you have purchased Me.
