Guest guest
(please also translate to Russian on CIS system) To all COM / CIS / PRONTO users Pamho. I searched all file areas for the virus program happy99.exe, and quite some devotees have received it (see list below). I have erased it everywhere from COM / CIS / PRONTO, but you may still have it on your computer. If you happen to receive happy99.exe from the internet: (1) Don't run it! (2) Erase the file from your computer. Empty your recycle bin. (3) Tell the sender that his computer is infected with the happy99 virus and that he/she should read http://craig.medill.nwu.edu/happy99/ for info on how to disinfect it. This program displays some fireworks, and then installs itself on your computer. When you send an e-mail message out (not via WinCOM), it will send the virus in a separate message to that person. You are at risk if you run Windows 95 or 98. Windows NT machines will display the fireworks, but the virus will not manage to install, although it will remain on your harddisk. This virus does not affect Macs, DOS, Windows 3.x, OS/2, Linux or WebTV. Also WinCOM does not spread the virus even on an infected computer. If you are already infected (in other words, if you have seen the fireworks), and you haven't disinfected your computer yet, read on http://craig.medill.nwu.edu/happy99/ how to disinfect your computer, or seek help from someone who knows what he's doing. If you can't access the web then do at least immediately the following to prevent the virus from spreading further: (1) Go to your Windows System folder (normally c:\windows\system) (2) find and erase SKA.EXE (10,000 bytes) (3) find and erase SKA.DLL (8,192 bytes) This is only a part of the cleaning process, you will still have to do the whole procedure at one point in time to get your winsock restored. In general, devotees should be a little more sceptical when they receive programs from others and do not know their source. Also, everyone must have a good antivirus program. If you don't have one yet, go and buy one. I know I said this many times, but still devotees are writing to me occasionally that their harddisk got corrupted by a virus. They thought devotees were immune to karmi viruses... Normally, the COM / CIS filter removes such things, but I had switched off the filter for a week while I was absent. ys rakt - - - - - - - - - - - The following persons had the happy99.exe program in their file area. However, this doesn't mean only they have received it, others may also have been a receiver of the letter where it was attached to. on COM: (Temple) Radhadesh (Belgium) Ajamidha (das) HKS Bhaktarupa (das) ACBSP Bhavatarini (dd) TKG Giridhari Swami Janaka (das) BBS Jayapataka Swami Kurma (das) ACBSP Madhava (das) BRS Mahaman (das) ACBSP Manoram Caitanya (das) JPS Marici (das) JPS Matsya Avatar (das) ACBSP Niranjana Swami Parijata (dd) RNS Radha Krsna (das) ACBSP (GB) Rasananda Swami Rasika-sekhara (das) IDS Sadasivananda (das) JPS Sravaniya (dd) TKG Svavasa (das) ACBSP Sveta Varaha (das) HKS Syamananda (das) SNS Tirtharaj (das) TKG Upendra (das) BRS Vaidyanatha (das) HKS Vedavyasa (das) ACBSP Visnu Murti (das) on CIS: Ananda (das) HKS (Saratov) Ananda Caitanya (das) PVS (Volga-Siberia - R) Angira Muni (das) PVS (Nama-Hatta Coordinator) Ganga (dd) IDS (CIS SysOp) Nama-hatta (Coordination Centre) Radha Seva (dd) NRS (Moscow) Sri-Govinda (das) IDS (Moscow) on PRONTO: BPI FDias (Fernando Dias) IAHC (HVC related articles from Lancet and Medline) Nhcenter
