Guest guest
Dear devotees, As you may already know, in June Harikesa Swami suffered a physical collapse while visiting Abentheuer, in Germany. He was rushed to hospital by ambulance and treated there for ten days. Although they were able to do something for the gastrointestinal infection that he had picked up in India, other conditions that had built up over a longer period still need further treatment. The combination of physical ailments and over-work have induced a such great weight of pressure and exhaustion that he has become practically unable to perform in any active managerial or executive capacity. Doctors project that it will be quite some time until he is able to resume his previous duties. Harikesa Maharaja is receiving regular treatment for this condition, and he is making gradual progress. But as is usual with this serious of a condition, his doctors say that it may be well over a year before he can resume his managerial functions. He has expressed concern about the many projects and developments that he has overseen and regrets deeply that he will not be able to play an active role in realizing those goals for some time. He is especially interested that the social development initiatives he was involved in continue. Most of the zonal responsibilities will continue to function under the direction of the already existing management structure, a few adjustments will be determined at a meeting of zonal managers next month. He called together a group of seventeen of his senior disciples which is seeing to his needs, which includes finding an appropriate place for him to live where he can get the peace and quiet he needs to make as rapid a recovery as possible. He addressed the devotees, reiterating many of the points that he mentioned in a recent letter to the general society. He mentioned his concern that the movement improve its care for children, women, old people, brahmanas and cows and emphasized that his disciples should take this very seriously, as the healthy growth of ISKCON depends on this. Harikesa Swami is reading and chanting a lot, and taking extensive nature walks. He has also said that once his strength returns he will adjust his life so that he does not fall into this condition again. He sends his thanks and appreciation to all the devotees who sent cards, flowers, well wishes and blessings.
