This information is meant for NT 4 users only and may not apply to all

users.

Use of this advice is entirely up to the individual and no gaurantees are

given as to its appropriateness or effectiveness.

Dear Vedabase Users,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Here is a tip I discovered whilst installing the updated version "f" of the

new Vedabase.

If you are using Windows NT 4 you may discover a problem in upgrading the

Hardlock drivers. During the installation of the hardlock drivers you may

notice that your system will register a number of error tones. You won't see

any messages.

The symptoms of this are not obvious until you run the program and you

receive the error message "Hardlock not found, Retry or Cancel". You won't

get past this point and the program will exit unceremoniously.

The procedure for installing the upgrade requires uninstalling the current

installed version. After uninstalling the program you need to remove three

files that the uninstall forgets to take out. For some reason they are not

overwritten in the re-install either. I assume that is what all the beeping

was about during the attempted replacement of the hardlock drivers.

The files which need removal could be located in a number of places.

Their names are hardlock.vxd, hlvdd.dll and hardlock.sys.

Hardlock.sys may not be found. The other two will still be there.

I found them in the following sub-directories in my system.

c:\winnt\system

c:\winnt\system32

c:\winnt\system32\drivers

If you fish around and delete these files after uninstalling the Vedabase

you will then be able to reinstall the new upgrade and the new hardlock

drivers will install with no problems.

That is my experience.

Your servant,

Aniruddha dasa
