Guest guest
Social roles may change. But sastra states that the female form is intrinsically less suited for spiritual realization than that of the male. Although a generalization, it is an important one that sastra repeatedly states. Along with the body goes a certain type of consciousness. Women tend to be more attached to children, home, comfort, security, bodily appearance (see the huge cosmetics section for women in any large store), and to have less ability to distinguish between matter and spirit. Therefore they are considered less intelligent. This does not bar them from making advancement in bhakti, which depends more on the mercy of the Lord and His devotees than on discriminatory power (but in which discriminatory power is also important).
