Would we dare say that a mentally retarded man's understanding is higher than a sane intelligent woman's understanding? What about the understanding of a devotee woman who remains in ISKCON compared to the understanding of a devotee man who leaves ISKCON for maya? Is his understanding still higher than hers? Such examples are many. However, we are still left with Srila Prabhupada's statement. What to do about it? How to understand it without becoming fanatical or dogmatic? Hridayananda Maharaja answers that, with all things being equal, a man will take the leading position, that's all. In other words, assuming that in a particular circumstance all characteristics of intelligence are equal among an individual woman and an individual man, (as it CAN be so, as above mentioned), the man will generally and naturally take the leading position.
