His Holiness Sacinandana Swami says that sometimes it can be helpful. I personally find that reading Krishna Book before going to bed and meditating on the next day chanting is by far the best method. As far as I can recall that's also suggested by His Holiness in his book "The Nectarian Ocean of the Holy Name."
