I am also joining to this question. It seems that even sex according to

religious principles is not a transcendental experience and it still has a

downtrodding effect on the state of the mind and body (I am talking about

male's experience in the least). So sex even according to the religious

principles is something distasteful (when one is sober and not lusty) and

there are examples when advanced devotees refused to perform garbhodhana

samskara (Govinda, RAmanujacarya's cousin is the one I can remember for

now).

On the other hand, "dharmaviruddho bhutesu kamo'smi". I can interpret this

statement of Sri Krishna as identification with some fundamental things in

this universe. In fact, there is a whole series of verses (8-13), where Lord

Krishna shows how everything is "protamsutre mani-gana iva" threaded on Him

- underlying principle of all. It's interesting that in the next verse after

7.11 (kamo'smi) Sri Krishna explains to Arjuna, that He is all the states of

being - sattva, rajas or tamas. I understand, that this gives hint to the

understanding of the 7.11. Even purified, dharmic sex is not a

transcendental experience, it's one of the states of being, yet compared to

the illicit connection it represents Krishna more.
