Guest guest
Maybe this is true in bigger centers like Mayapur and Vrindavan where a lot of devotees float in and out. Devotees tend to be indepedendent and the management is understandably reluctant to take responsibility for them. But there are more personalized centers also, of which Chowpatti is best known, where devotees are certainly taken care of both spiritually and materially. However, in Chowpatti they don't even allow men to move in as brahmacaris unless they perceive a high level of commitment. Those who are independent can't depend on others to help them. You can't have it both ways, both independent and dependent. You note that some brahmacaris are forced by economic reasons to be independent, and thus cannot properly follow brahmacari dharma. This unnatural situation is maybe a reality for some and is an effect of the artificial social structure prevalent in the world. OK, brahmacaris may have to face existential problems. But guess what? Unmarried women who come to our movement have it much worse. Almost all of them face many anxieties that aren't appropriate to discuss here. What is the solution to all this? To establish varnasrama society. Much easier said than done. In the meantime, I don't have any easy solution to all these social problems. These are pioneering days in Krsna consciousness. The ideal is something we are struggling to work towards. Varnasrama is far from being manifested. Those with guts and vision will keep up the struggle. The less brave hearted will become discouraged and get sucked into a negative vortex. --------------------- Another point in relation to your overall letter is that my book is meant to give a general indication of the ideal standard. Obviously, there will be discrepancies in various situations and individuals, and it will not be possible for everyone to come up to the highest standard. Those who are sara-grahi Vaisnavas will accept the essence of the instruction therein and intelligently apply it in their lives, whatever the particular situation they may find themselves in. These are just a few thoughts; others are welcome.
