> it is a pod isn't it?

> hence a legume.

---------------------

A pod is a legume? I am sorry but this is not correct logic. Leguminous

plants are a specific botanical group, and cardamom is not a member. Besides

there are many legumes that we DO eat on ekadasi. Peanuts are legumes.

Mustard seeds are legumes, and Prabhupada ate them on Ekadasi, although

other Gaudiyas do not. Fenugreek is another.

What do you think?

----------------------

i don't think i have any of my old books on botany etc.

i'll try to look tho.

i guess all legumes have pods but not vice versa so to speak.

i'd be interested to know what family cardamom is in.

ps -- yes Srila Prabhupada made the rules [for us at least]. did he eat

cardamom on ekadasi?

i now looked up cardamom in my dictionary [old] , it says card is of the

ginger family.

i'm no scholar. i did however study biology towards a masters -- never

finished. i remember this:

the legume family used to be called something else. or either it is now

called something else. don't remember.

and there was a more less constant updating/rearranging of classifications.

much of it dated back to Linnaeus. quite old.

especially with genetic "knowledge" as it is, i think this rearranging will

continue.
