Eggplant on ekadasi?

Not only on those days but on ALL DAYS. The only exception is the Madhvas who

only take a particular type of green eggplant called gula usually cooked in

sambar. This is due to a story about Lord Hayagiva and Vadiraja Swami.

In ISKCON I have never heard of eggplant being prohibited.

 

There are so many restrictions by different groups on foodstuffs. Especially

those which are seen as being NON-Indian in origin. However in practice I have

seen in India even the most orthodox persons still use chilis which are from

South America. You should not that in ancient temples like Sri Rangam or

Jagganath Puri, tomatoes, potatoes, chilis, and other foreign vegetables are

forbidden. I personally think there is no use in trying to introduce these

types of restrictions into ISKCON.
