Not only on those days but on ALL DAYS. The only exception is the Madhvas who only take a particular type of green eggplant called gula usually cooked in sambar. This is due to a story about Lord Hayagiva and Vadiraja Swami. >Is it > an ISKCON system to take eggplant on Ekadasi? In ISKCON I have never heard of eggplant being prohibited. There are so many restrictions by different groups on foodstuffs. Especially those which are seen as being NON-Indian in origin. However in practice I have seen in India even the most orthodox persons still use chilis which are from South America. You should not that in ancient temples like Sri Rangam or Jagganath Puri, tomatoes, potatoes, chilis, and other foreign vegetables are forbidden. I personally think there is no use in trying to introduce these types of restrictions into ISKCON. ys Gaura Keshava das
