A few other problems/symptoms:

 

* We figured out a way to use the CD burner, but it only works if we write

at about half of it's potential speed and start off by writing a really

small file or two by themselves. Once, one or two small files are on the CD

it seems to do okay as long as you write slowly. However if we try to write

at 8x or try to write big files immediately, it just destroys the CD.

 

* Perhaps the most significant thing is that we cannot run either Thorough

Scan Disk or Disk Defragmenter on our C Drive. The other drives we have no

problems with but when we try with "C" we get the following error message:

 

"Scan Disk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has

been writing to this drive."

 

No other programs are running. We have tried re-booting several times; it

still gives the same error message.

 

I don't know if it has anything to do with the problem but, we are using an

AMD Duron Processor. It's the only one we could find that had a SCSI port

for our scanner. We had a technician come out a couple of times. He is

convinced that is a hardware problem, but he can't figure out what it is.

 

I greatly appreciate it if anyone has any other suggestions.
