Your argument neglects to consider the point that although our

consciousness is colored by karma, we always have free will at every

point in time. So although we may think a certain way, we are

constantly making decisions about what to do in the future which

creates new karmic reactions. Do not forget that free will is there

which enables us to accept the mercy of a devotee of Krsna when he

approaches us. When we are attracted to the devotee and accept what

he says, then we can counteract the resultant reactions of karma which

determine to a large degree our particular state of consciousness.

Especially when we start chanting Hare Krsna which destroys at the

root the role of karma in our lives.
