It is not that one speaks always from the logical and rational point of view, especially when dealing with family members. In this case he knew what was right, but he did not think about it constantly. When his uncle actually left the palace, this was a very shocking thing since no one actually believe he would do it due to his old age and invalidity, as well as his past history.
