Krsna was, as usual, doing many things at once for His pleasure. He was showing that He did not steal the jewel, He was enjoying a good fight with his eternal associate, Jambavan, He was manifesting before His servitor for his pleasure, He was gaining His wife Jambavati, and getting back the jewel all at once. And all of it was for His pleasure. He had nothing to prove outside of the obvious that He is the Supreme Enjoyer. If He does act in a way which is according to some material understanding, it is simply to establish the proper actions for all mankind by giving a good example.
