Guest guest
As I was born in a Canadian province where people mainly speak French (Quebec), the English language remains difficult for me although I have made progress lately. Yet in 1980, at a New Vrindavan festival, I could hardly distinguish between WINTER and SUMMER. Although ending with the same letters, their definitions are quite different. I easily mistook one for the other. Wishing to distinguish between these two words, I asked an American devotee I associated with during the festival and with who I got along fine to help me. However, I think I went about it the wrong way. Under a scorching summer sun, I simply asked him, "IS IT SUMMER OR WINTER NOW?" He looked at me and said, PRABHUUUUU!!!!! COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I perfectly understood then what went on in his mind. I felt quite embarrassed. I knew he took me for one of those strange devotees we have all met in our devotional life. Moreover, due to my lack of knowledge of the English language, I couldn't explain the situation to him. With a downcast look, I went away. The following days, we avoided any conversation. Fortunately, I have never seen him since.
