Guest guest
Pamho. I have uploaded in the file area of this conference "(Computer) Programs (devotee-made)" the unfinished v34 of Comfort and AddressBook. Unfinished means: as they were when I stopped working on them half a year ago. I release this version simply as a relief to those who are traumatically suffering because of bugs in Comfort & AB v30. This version fixes the problem with the Address Book not popping up in Win98, wrong e-mail receiver pasted, etc. Also the batch sessions and various other bugs in Comfort are fixed. (A complete list is at the end of this text) * WARNING * Neither me nor Ramakanta Prabhu support this half-finished version 34. There is no use of reporting bugs in them, since there will not be any further updates or fixes for this version 34. The new WinCOM 35 (which Ramakanta Prabhu is making now) will have everything built-in, so there will be no more need for COMFORT.EXE or ADDRBOOK.EXE. Anyone who still wants to try it can download CMF34.ZIP (140 KB), but please make a BACKUP COPY of your old COMFORT.EXE, ADDRBOOK.EXE and ADDRLIB.DLL BEFORE YOU UNZIP THIS FILE CMF34.ZIP into your WinCOM root directory. So that you can revert back to the old situation in case you experience trouble with the new programs. I have been using them personally all the time, and also sent them to a few others who had serious problems with batch sessions, and none of us have experienced any serious problems with them. But still it is an unfinished version, so some buttons or menu items don't do anything, or their functions have some bugs. There is also a half-updated help file... The name is CMF34HLP.ZIP (200 KB, 32-bit version only). Also here make a backup of your old file. ys rakt COMFORT - Changes and new features: - You can specify an expiration date for the note in "Commands / Set your / Note". COM notes (not PRONTO) are now also sent to e-mail senders, not only to COM users. - Asks for your approval before changing a user name into something else. - Previously you could write the conference name manually when trying to join a conference (instead of locating the name in the list), but then if the conference was private, the request was sent to the SysOp since the organizer was not known. So now, when you try to put the cursor on the Conference name field, the search box comes up instead. - In a batch session, Comfort now does "wincom status myself" for every user in the batch, instead of sending "(Get) Day/Time". ADDRESS BOOK - Changes and new features: - Ctrl-Shift-G makes a group out of all items in the list box. - Searches first in own lists (e-mail addresses, aliases and groups), then in COM lists, so that matching aliases and groups will be included even when a small number of matches is specified in the Setup screen. COMFORT - Bug fixes: - Batch session caused identity crisis in certain circumstances with undesired name and object number changes as a result. - Batch session always downloaded mail zipped, even when PGP or Plain was selected in Options / Login. - Batch session also downloaded suspended conferences if "Download attached files" was activated in Options / Login. - If both "Quit when done" and "also do a batch session when I log on" were on, Comfort did not do "wincom status myself" for the master user. - If there were more than just a few files in a batch user's UP directory, Comfort would crash. Now it warns that there are abnormally many files and that they are probably old files that were never deleted, but gives you the chance to upload them anyway. - After a batch session, not all information about the master user would be reloaded. For example, "Files / Start Explorer in my folder" would display the folder of the last batch user. - Comfort downloaded address updates for other nodes during batch session, even for users who had set not to download them in Login Options. - Commands / Window / Open Commands: created window was not the active window. - Online messages were captured wrongly. - Time unit was not saved in "Options / Accounting". Note that settings in Options / Accounting are global, ie. if one user changes something, the settings will take effect for all users on the same WinCOM. - If the directory name given in "File / Add a WinCOM user" contained a character that must not be used in DOS filenames, Comfort asked to please correct it, but then gave no chance to correct it. ADDRESS BOOK - Bug fixes: - Fixed for Win98: AB did not appear (one had to click the button in the task bar) - Manually writing a receiver's e-mail address only worked if it was the first address. If more addresses were added, the first address would be repeated instead.
