The problem was that the virus check program detected the virus, but did not

delete the file because it reports it only as "possiby infected." COM only

rejects the upload if the antivirus program actually deletes the file.

 

I changed it now so that at least the AV program cleans the file. COM won't

report that. I would rather have it erase the file in all cases, so that the

sender knows he'd better check his harddisk, but it does not seem to be

possible with MacAfee's VirusScan.
