Guest guest
Why not drop the name/password login sequence all together and replace it by an exchange of PGP public keys? Instead of sending names and passwords over the net, you identify to COM with your public PGP key. When found in COM's keyring, from that moment on all file transfers between COM and your WinCOM are encrypted and secure. Even if others get your public key, connect to COM with it and download all your mail, they cannot decrypt it. It's useless for them. It will eliminate all traffic interception leaks. Even packet sniffers and IP spoofing will not be of any use. Access to your WinCOM can easily be restricted by setting a password on your filing cabinet. Whenever you (re)start WinCOM you will have to give that password to open your filing cabinet and use your account. Sure, you still need to enter a password, but not every time you login. Both PGP and the filing cabinet password protection are already supported by WinCOM. I'm not a programmer, though, and cannot say if this system is difficult or even possible to implement. It's just a suggestion.
