It's called versatile because it can be used for video, audio and data, as well as other future formats. So far, the major use of the new DVD format is for the movie industry. In fact, sometimes DVD refers to Digital Video Disc. It cannot be used in a regular CD-ROM drive. You need one of the new DVD drives.
