(Reuters) - A Nebraska man was hospitalized on Tuesday after being trapped in a city garbage truck where he was compacted along with several loads of trash. It took firefighters about an hour to dig the man out from the tightly compressed refuse packed into the hopper of the garbage truck, Omaha Fire Department spokesman Craig Schneider said. Keith Quick, 28, apparently had been sleeping in a local dumpster when the city trash truck came by early on Monday morning. After emptying the dumpster into his truck, the garbage truck driver continued on his route unaware that anything was amiss, Schneider said. It was not until several stops and several loads of trash later that the truck driver heard Quick calling for help. By that time he had been compacted "two or three times," Schneider said. Quick suffered multiple fractures but was listed in fair condition at the Nebraska Health System University Hospital, a spokeswoman there said. "We're not sure how long he'd been in the truck or how many times he'd been compacted. He is pretty lucky," Schneider said.
