69. The Ganges River, who was born from the lotus feet of Lord Visnu,

appeared in Lord Caitanya's pastimes as Srimati Ganga-devi, the daughter of

Lord Nityananda. Her husband, Sri Madhava, had formerly been Maharaja

Santanu.

So if Maharaja Bhisma had to be there, he must have come as the son of Sri

Madhava & Srimati Ganga-devi. I have the following info:

Ganga was the daughter of Nityananda Prabhu. She married a brahmana

from Jirat named Madhava Cattopadhyaya. Ganga's son was named Gopi

Vallabha or Gopala Vallabha, whose family-line became well-known in Jirat

as the Gosvami-line descending from Gangadevi. He married

Rasamanjari, the daughter of Jagadisa Pandita, a branch of Nityananda

Prabhu.

So maybe Gopala Vallabha was an incarnation of Bhisma. But there is a chance

that he may ne an incarnation of any of the other seven vasus also who were

sons of Gangadevi & Santanu. Some say that there has been a long-drawn out

dispute between the family-line of Ganga (from Gopala Vallabha) and that of

Nityananda Prabhu (from Virabhadra Gosani). My reasearch has taken so far. I

cannot go any furthur. There is a book 'Jagadisacaritra' about the life of

Jagadish Pandit which may give furthur info. about Gopala Vallabha but I don't

know whether it is authorized or not & available or not. The fact that Kavi

Karnapura has mentioned Ganga devi & Sri Madhava in GGD, arouses some

suspicions.
