Glorification of Mathur€'s Br€hmaŠas

In the šdi-var€ha Pur€Ša it is said:

There are two br€hmaŠas. One lives in Mathura' and is not learned in

the Vedas. The other does not live in Mathur€, although he knows the four

Vedas very well. One should ignore the br€hmaŠa learned in the four Vedas

and should feed the br€hmaŠa who lives in Mathur€.

text 311

ki-balo dur€c€ro

dharma-m€rga-par€‰-mukhaƒ

…do 'pi p™jan…yo

m€thuro mama r™pa-dhk

ki-balaƒ-a farmer; dur€c€raƒ-a ruffian;

dharma-m€rga-par€n--mukhaƒ-one averse to the path of religion; …daƒ-like

this; api-even; p™jan…yaƒ-should be worshiped; m€thuraƒ-from Mathur€;

mama-My; r™pa-dhk-own form.

Whether a farmer, a ruffian, or a sinner who turns his face from the

path of religion, any resident of Mathura' should be worshiped. He is

representation of My own form.

text 316

yas tatra nivased devi

samyato hi jitendriyaƒ

tri-k€lam api bhuñj€no

v€yu-bhaka-samo hi saƒ

yaƒ-who; tatra-there; nivased-resides; devi-O goddess;

samyataƒ-controlled; hi-indeed; jita-indriyaƒ-conquered the senses;

tri-k€lam'three times; api-also; bhuñj€naƒ-eating; v€yu-bhaka-samaƒ-equal

to someone who eats the wind; hi-indeed; saƒ-he.

O goddess, a person who lives there (in Mathur€), although he be a

prisoner of his senses, is like one who has conquered them, and although he

eats three times a day, is like an ascetic that only eats the wind.
