Guest guest
Basu Ghosh Prabhu told me, "Srila Prabhupada went out of his way to appease rich men. He humored them because he wanted to engage their Laksmi, and they had tremendous power to help if they were favorable. By collecting a little Laksmi here and there it can gradually build up, but just one rich man can do so much." Satadhanya Prabhu told me that when visiting a rich man's home and seeing many pictures of demigods, Srila Prabhupada said, "We also respect all the gods." Srila Prabhupada wrote (to Gurudasa, 26 May, 1972), "If you canvass him [Padampat Singhania] very sincerely and gently he can alone build our Vrndavana temple." Obviously this doesn't mean that Srila Prabhupada wholesale compromised with rich men. There are other examples also, for instance of Srila Prabhupada refusing to accept food in the home of one of the richest men in Malaysia because he ate meat. Would any devotees like to offer any comments or realizations on this?
