Guest guest
Sometime in the mid-seventies, during the Gaura Purnima festival in Mayapur, devotees went to take darsan of some godbrother of Srila Prabhupada. WHen the devotees relayed to Prabhupada what he has said, Prabhupada commented, "Actually, he was not glorifying me; he was insulting me by saying that the ONLY people I could save were drug-addicted hippies. And by hearing this, you all have suffered irreperable spiritual damage." A few days later, at 8:30pm, His Grace Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu was in his room, ready to take rest, when a devotee came in and said that Prabhupada wanted to speak to him. Surprised, he put on his dhoti and went to Prabhupada's quarters. When he came in, he saw several godbrothers of Srila Prabhupada sitting there. Then, Prabhupada asked Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu, "Tell us, what is the subject of your doctoral dissertation that you are currently writing for your PHD?" Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu replied, "I want to write about the political, religious, economic, social and spiritual necessity of Krishna Consciousness in today's current society." Prabhupada replied, "All-around necessity?" Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu confirmed, "Yes." Prabhupada smiled and said, "Very well; Thank you." Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu offered his obeisances and walked back to his room. He explains that Prabhupada obviously called him in and had him speak about his doctoral dissertation to prove to his godbrothers that Prabhupada was indeed saving intelligent and respectable young men and women, and not just "drug-addicted hippies."
