Guest guest
Dear Maharaja, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Thank you for your letter. > Should the Deity curtain be closed if the Lord's dress, mukut etc., needs > adjusting? This seems to be standard practice in ISKCON; even in the > middle of arati the curtain is sometimes briefly closed. Was this practice > instituted by Srila Prabhupada? Is it followed in traditional paramparas > in India? If there is something major like deities missing crowns, the crown falls over Their face, flute missing etc., then certainly the curtain should be closed and adjustments made. I remember one time in Mayapur the pujari forgot Madhava's flute then wanted to close the curtain to put the flute in. Jananivasa prabhu told the pujaris to wait until everyone had gone around the back of the altars on Srila Prabhupada's procession before closing so that the darsana would not be disturbed. It seems in some temples that it has become a common practice to close the curtains even to make the smallest adjustments. This should be avoided. If it is only a small thing then better to wait until the bhoga offering or something like that. Your servant, Nrsimha Kavaca dasa
