Guest guest
SrI: Dear Members of the Oppiliappan List : This will be the last of the mails in Oppiliappan List on this topic . I have released a number of messages sofar from the concerned Members about the decision of the Chief Minister of TN before the embers of his election politics hardly cooled . He must be a Vicious , Vengeful Vandal. A ploitician stooping so low to do one upmanship in the repeated battle to push a minority group down is despicable . His moves cause of the grave threat to the ancient temple culture and makes one suspect about his other motives (Viz) , appointing cohorts to join in the plunder . This crass politically motivated move of the CM to please his electoral base and punish the opponent is a cheap grand standing . Let me add a few things in perspective and close the discussions : 1. Bhagavaan belongs to every body . He looks at all Jeevans caged in different bodies and VarNAsramams with equal compassion . 2. Casteism need not be injected into these discussions but politicians find it alluring to kindle these flames and divide Hindus and Non Hindus . The politicians of some other states have been consumed by the very same fire that they have kindled . I thought Tamil Nadu is an intelligent state , which offered economic hope by bringing in New Industries . Apparently , the new CM is creating discord for advancement of his own political and private agenda . 3. Aagamaas are ancient and a Mastery of them is vital to perform the ordained AarAdhanams . Incompetent people overrun by crass commerical motives perform these AarAdhanams for PerumAL at many dhivya dEsams . Very few places are left where AarAdhanam is performed with sincerity and Faith. AarAdhanam is a fruitless in those cases and is a worthless activity . Saannidhyam leaves the deities and the power is lost . One may as well perform SaaLagrama AarAdhanam at home . 4. In fairness , the CM should take over all the churches , the Mosques besides Hindu Temples . He will see what a fire he would get into , when he does that . 5. I remember the previous times , when such attempts were made and it only hurt the archaka community , which rebounded in few Months . 4. Sri Jalasayanan makes an interesting point about the economic pull of some one wanting to enter these professions for the sake of making a decent living . The incentives are poor although the current archakAs stay in at many poor revenue producing temples because of family links. Number of them are helping their children to move out of these traditional positions since it is horrible to work under the apathy of the Hindu Endowment Board and the tyranny of the local Executive officers . I must say that some of the archakaas at "wealthy" temples are too greedy and take advantage of the visiors and the PerumAl suffers . 6. Let us get well trained , god-fearing competent priests well versed in Aagamaas , who are paid decent salaries and have respected career paths to uphold our ancient traditions . 5. I conclude that the current move of the CM is more of thumbing noses with the opposition that lost to him . The Court system all the way to the Supreme Court in a democratic country like India will deprive the CM of any success with his malicious scheme . Guest guest
Dear Members, The temples in Tamil Nadu were built by the kings and all the temples were provided with enough lands by the kings to cater to the day to day poojas, Uthsavams and other related celebrations in the temples. They were actually centres providing employment to all categories of people like Vadyagars etc. But now most of the temples are without any land as their lands have been swallowed by the politicians. This process was started when the present ruling party assumed power for the first time in the state. Most of the temples are now run by the locals. It looks as though the present order is to weed out the qualified preists and bring their own kith and kin to finish off whatever is left in the temples. S Lakshminarayanan - "govindakrishnan alagar" Oppiliappan Re: Re: All people can become priests Sun, 21 May 2006 06:16:34 -0700 (PDT) Dear Memebers The Government of Tamil Nadu has approved the order to make any 'qualified' person to become archaka. There is a long way to go, of course. First it needs to be published and objections obtained from public. Then the implementation. For that the Govt. has to find institutions to 'qualify' 'anyoneq' Questions as to where are such insitutions, 'who' will teach and 'what' are the qualifications. To do that the Govrnment as in other cases, would form Commitee and everyone knows what happens to the Commitees and their recommendations. Assuming recommendations do come, litigations on them are not ruled out. When the question of which Thiruman should adore the elephant takes ages in the Court one can imagine the web of legal battle on these issues. In the meantime the Govt. will have a thousand other day to day problems to face than to run after qualifiying 'anyone' for the job of the lacklusture priesthood. At the end of the day, the malady lies in the temples being under the Government. The day the HR and CE ministries were contemplated the wisemen like Rajaji and others should have resisted and stopped that move. The damage has been done and which ever Government comes here after, the issue would remain alive for reasons other than real interest to implement. In the meantime the existing practice would be continuing. Srivilliputtur Govindakrishnan Alagar Love cheap thrills? Guest guest
swamin, BUT IS THERE A SPECIFIC WAY TO LEAD LIFE AND BE LEARNED TO SOME EXTENT. THAT ISTHE BASIC Q. ALL THIS HAPPENS ONLY IN INDIA WHERE CHRISTIAN AND MUSLIM LIVES ARE MORE VALUABLE AND TEXTS MORE SACRED THAN HINDUS. Regards/vj Sowmya Ravi <ravi_sowmya (AT) hotmail (DOT) com> wrote: It is indeed shameful that inspite of India being a hindu country, because of politicians we are afraid to fight on this issue, wonder if any one will dare to bring in similar law in other religions like Muslims, christians etc. I donot intend to bring this with kind of argument but, my concern is what happens to varnashrama darma . And what ultimately can be acheived on this. regards ravi iyngar
