Quintessence May/June (2006): A Synopsis

****************************************

In this issue, Srila Prabhupada, taking the cue from the Bhagavad-Gita,

explains

why we living entities should choose to be controlled by God's love or be

troubled by the forces of material nature. In a persuasive article on

"Hearing

is believing versus Seeing is believing", Navin explains how the time-tested

Vedic method of acquiring knowledge from authorities is not, after all,

drastically different from the method of sense perception, the primary tool

of

modern science, and encourages an open-minded approach to Vedic epistemology

for insights into absolute reality, that is inaccessible through other

means.

In "Rituals versus knowledge", Radhikesh Das carefully observes how the

process

of yoga is not a mechanical application of concepts, but an active

cultivation

of love and devotion for the Supreme Lord. In his second and final part of

"Breaking the Cycle of Sin", Nimai Nitai Das lays out with great clarity,

the

three main yoga systems of karma (works), jnana (empirical philosophy) and

bhakti (devotion) and their efficacy in weeding out the root of sinful

activities, ignorance. A short and sweet compilation on "Dvaraka, the

Capital

City of Lord Krishna", by Priya Rajagopal takes us on a fascinating journey

to

one of the most revered and Holy places in India. And there is more to

relish...Veggie corner, leadership tips, lessons from the Gita and news on

Krishna conscious college activities. Happy reading!
