Guest guest
There are a number of mantras designed for chanting in the morning. Often they are called "suprabhatam," meaning "to go forth well." The Gayatri is one, designed to be chanted at dawn. Another one that I like is a blessing of one's hands. It goes: karagre vasate lakshmi/ kara madhye saraswati/ kara mule tu govindah/ prabhate kara darshanam/ (in my fingertips dwells the goddess of wealth/ in my palms, the goddess of knowledge/ at my wrists art thou, divine herdsman/ by observing my hands, I begin the day well./) I was told the appropriate gesture to use while reciting this, was to hold your hands in front of your face, looking at the fingertips, palms, and wrists, envisioning Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Govinda, and then to gently cover your eyes with your hands. One source had replaced "Govinda" with "Gauri Ma," to make the mantra more completely Shakta by invoking the consorts of Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva. But most versions invoke Govinda/Krishna at the wrists. -- Len/ Kalipadma prainbow61 <paulie-rainbow (AT) usa (DOT) net> wrote: Namaste, What and when is appropriate morning prayer to Devi? Mahahradanatha "In the tantrik tradition, each aspect of devata has her or his own form of the Gayatri and it is often pronounced at the four junctions of the day, including midnight. For example, Tripurasundari Gayatri runs: Tripurasundari vidmahe, kameshvari dhimahi, tanno klinne pracodayat. This means: Let us contemplate Tripurasundari, let us think of Kameshvari, may that wetness direct. The Gandharva Tantra uses the 24 different syllables of this mantra in Sanskrit as a visualisation, starting from the base of the spine and moving to the top of the head. The other tantrik Gayatri is a mantra known as Ajapa. This is recited by every living being unconsciously 21,600 times a day as she or he breathes. Half are sun breaths and half are moon breaths. It consists of the letters Ha and Sa." http://shivashakti.com/gayatri.htm
