Just a clarification: No one is appointed to be guru in ISKCOn these days. The GBC only issues "non objection" statements. Typically prospective disciples approach someone who inspires them in spiritual life. If that person is not already an initiating spiritual master in ISKCON, the GBC votes to see if anyone (it may be 3 members who are requeired) has any objections. If not, the person can initiate. However, it is very important to note that this does not mean that the GBC takes responsibility for what level this person is at. It is still up to the disciples to carefully study their prospective guru and for the guru to similarly study the prospective disciple. We pray to Krsna to send us a guru and if we're sincere, He will do so. However, it's up to us to use our own intelligence to determine who is and who is not bonafide. Fortunately, we can read about how to do so, but how many new devotees know that? We therefore need much more education of our bhaktas and bhaktins regarding what to look for in a guru. This seems to be where things often fall apart in our society (together with the pressure to get initiated prematurely that still exists in many regions). Guest guest
Dear mataji, PAMHO, I think that the initiating guru must initiate, if he is qualified. But,to put it safer for everyone(as a suggestion),we must not give guruship,if he is not past the age of 50. I think the older the Guru is ,he is safer for others. But,we must also not forget as to how much he is sticking to the instructions of His Devine Grace.A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupad. If he is there, just to make disciples of his own,he must not be encouraged. Wish you full of progress and encouragement in the service of Srila Prabhupad. Your servant. Mk das.
